This week, we begin diving into the study of pragmatics. To get started, check out this overview of the Intercultural, Pragmatic, and Interactional Competence (IPIC) Model. It provides a brief definition of pragmatics and a summary of the four components of the model: knowledge, analysis, subjectivity, and awareness.

There are a couple of other ways to get started with pragmatics this week!

  • Check out our Facebook page after 11:00 am (Pacific) on Monday. While we are typically live on Mondays, given the holdiay, we will post a pre-recorded video. Even though we are pre-recorded, we invite you to participate in the conversation by posting in the comments.
  • Complete the Activity of the Week. In this activity, you will dissect a language function according to the IPIC Model.

Happy exploring! We are excited to continue engaging with you this week.
