TitleUniversity Strengthens Industry Engagement
Body

CASLS is proud to be part of the newly formed University of Oregon Industry Engagement Group. The group is working to identify challenges related to partnerships between the university and private industry and to discuss potential solutions.

The university already has a deep history of engaging with private industry to host student interns, for example, and to undertake collaborative research. The UO is ranked fifth in the Association of American Universities in licensing per research dollar and thirtieth in patents per research dollar.

“There are innovations happening with university research, and the impact and implications of that research can be much bigger when the university collaborates with industry. And vice versa. There’s a lot of great things happening in private companies, and a university structure can be slow to respond,” says Mandy Gettler, CASLS Associate Director, who assists with the establishment of public-private partnerships at CASLS.

The Industry Engagement Group is seeking solutions for a faster response to industry trends and for easing administrative burden required to solidify partnerships.

The working group, led by UO Corporate Relations and Innovation Partnership Services, boasts an interdisciplinary membership, with members coming from a variety of domains and expertise.
