Many Americans have German heritage, and they are the largest group of immigrants to have come to the United States. This article documents how German heritage and culture has changed in its perception in the United States from the beginning of World War I to now. In particular, it highlights German heritage festivals still celebrated around the United States, such as the Steuben Parade and Oktoberfest. This article provides good context for teachers talking to students about the German language and its historical usage in the US.
