| Body | From: "FLTEACH" The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures invites applications from candidates with demonstrated leadership ability in a democratic environment and a strong commitment to teaching and scholarship to chair the department at the rank of Professor beginning September 1, 2004. At UNT, faculty appointed as chairs serve renewable four-year terms in that role. The language area of specialization is open, but Spanish is strongly preferred. Responsibilities will include scheduling, curriculum development, faculty recruitment and development, strategic planning (including the possibility of developing a Ph.D. program in Romance Languages), budget preparation, and faculty evaluation. Experience in shared governance, international education and grant writing is also desired. This is a 10 1/2-month position which includes some teaching. With 25 full-time faculty members, the department offers M.A. programs in French and Spanish, B.A. programs in French, German, and Spanish, and minors in Italian, Japanese, and Latin. We also offer beginning and intermediate courses in Arabic, Hebrew, and Russian. UNT, a growing research institution with an enrollment of over 30,000 students, is located in Denton, a city of approximately 80,000 in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area of over 5.1 million people. The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is a cosmopolitan, urban area with diverse cultural, ethnic, linguistic, artistic and scholarly communities. Denton offers a moderate cost of living and high quality of life.
