This year's focus area is ''applied linguistics'' in its broadest scope. Suggested topics include, but are not limited to: L1 and L2 language pedagogy; language and the media, linguistic landscapes, discourse and power, translation and interpretation, languages in contact, sociolinguistics, anthropological linguistics, linguistic attitudes and ideologies, and language policy and planning.
