We, at CASLS, find that teachers who use a backwards design process for curriculum design have positive results integrating standards, objectives, assessments, and activities. The backwards design process is based heavily on the work of Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe. In this short essay, Jay McTighe summarizes three lessons that the late Grant Wiggins emphasized: Plan Backward from Authentic Performance, Feedback is Key to Successful Learning and Performance, and Empathize with the Learner.
