Singapore's government is beginning to realize the importance of Malay
instruction after few fluent speakers were around to help after the recent
tsunami. Unlike Malaysia and Indonesia, who count Malay as their national
language, Singaporeans are educated in Chinese and English, and many
risk losing their indigenous languages.
