| Title | Research Summary: What Can Screen Capture Reveal About Students’ Use of Software Tools When Undertaking a Paraphrasing Task? |
| Body | From http://www.eltresearchbites.com Clare Mass summarizes and discusses a 2018 article by C. Bailey and J. Withers, “What Can Screen Capture Reveal About Students’ Use of Software Tools When Undertaking a Paraphrasing Task?” published in the Journal of Academic Writing. One of the conclusions: "The findings here highlight some major individual differences in proficiency with the electronic tools available. Bailey and Withers therefore advocate training students to use the basic helpful functions of a word processing programme and opening up dialogue about how they can be used effectively. They emphasise that the aim should be 'to discourage the indiscriminate and mechanical use of … substitution' in paraphrasing (p. 184), and suggest this training should focus on word class distinction, collocation and colligation."
