Dear Teachers,

We cordially invite you to the Annual Conference of the Canadian Association for Japanese Language Education (CAJLE). Here is the updated information:

Date: August 21 - 24, 2003

Place: University of Calgary
Professional Faculties Bldg. (PF114 & PF126)

For English-speaking high school teachers of Japanese, we are planning a seminar/workshop, lectures, and group discussions for the information exchange in English on August 23rd (Saturday). We are also planning a day trip to Banff on the last day of the conference. Even if you are not a CAJLE member, you can attend the conference on the 23rd and/or 24th (Banff) as a visitor. Please join us, and exchange views and opinions on language education with our Japanese-speaking teachers.

August 23 Schedule for English-speaking Teachers of Japanese

9:00-12:00: Seminar/Workshop
Yoko Udagawa (Alberta Learning/Japan Foundation)
³Games and Activities from Down Under²
Exchange information and opinions to design activities through exciting games and new tasks from Australia.

12:00-2:00: (Lunch time) Group discussion sessions for information exchange.

2:00-3:00: Lecture by Michiko Nishijima (University of New Brunswick)
³Understanding how to use Japanese expressions: Culture behind the language²

3:00-4:00: Lecture by Fumiko Summerell (University of Calgary)
³Ten tips to help your students improve their Japanese²

4:00-5:00: Lecture by Yoko Udagawa (Alberta Learning/Japan Foundation)
³Japanese language education in Australia²

Participation fee for August 23rd: Can$20.00 for members; Can$30.00 for non-members.
Fee for Japanese lunch (optional): Can$10.00.
Day trip fee to Banff (optional): Can$60.00. (Please see the schedule
below.)

Payment is due on the day of registration.
Accommodations: you can stay on campus at a very reasonable price:

Single: Can$35.84
Twin: Can$24.64
These prices include taxes. (GST 7% and AHT ‹ Alberta Hotel Tax 5%)
