TitleCall for Papers: Service-Learning in Applied Linguistics

We are seeking manuscripts for a forthcoming anthology on Service-Learning
in Applied Linguistics. We encourage submissions in Applied Linguistics and
the related disciplines of Classical Studies, English, Foreign/Language
Education, Hearing and Speech Sciences, Legal Studies, Psychology, and
TESOL. Possible methods and topics may include, but are not limited to:

- Theoretical Perspectives on Service-Learning in Applied Linguistics
- Program Design and Administration Issues
- Case Studies, Ethnographies, and Empirical Research
- Language ideology and identity construction
- Cultural Contact Zones and Concepts of the "Other"
- Multiple Literacies (e.g., Funds of Knowledge & Electronic Discourses)
- Corpus Linguistics, Computer-Mediated Communication, & Service-
Learning
- Language Policy, Planning, and Education (e.g., Native American Language
Preservation and Heritage Language Education)
- International Service-Learning
- Interlanguages, Intercultural Pragmatics, Town-Gown Code Switching
- Critical Pedagogy
- Discourse Analysis
- Assessment

We welcome both practical and research focused articles (including action
research). Articles should have a clear focus and be written so that they are
accessible to a broad audience of service-learning and language educators,
including those individuals who may not be familiar with the particular subject
matter addressed in the article. Articles should report on original research or
present an original framework that links previous research, educational
theory, and teaching practices. Full-length articles should use APA
documentation style and be no more than 7500 words in length.

Prospective authors should submit a one-page abstract to the editors, Josef
Hellebrandt (JHellebrandt@scu.edu) and Adrian Wurr (ajwurr@uncg.edu)
by April 15, 2005. Complete manuscripts of accepted proposals will be due
September 4, 2005. A complimentary copy of the anthology will be mailed to
all authors whose papers appear in the book.
