TitleGame of Quotes: Excellent for Free Reading
Body

From https://senorachase.com

Your InterCom editor, who was an avid reader as a K-12 student, never enjoyed writing book reports as an accountability tool for free reading. Here's a game she wishes she had been able to play instead: the Game of Quotes!

Here's a short description: after 15 minutes or so of free reading, the teacher puts up a prompt, such as "Best excuse for being late to class." Students have a few minutes to find a quote in their books and write in on a whiteboard. In small groups, students select the best (usually, funniest) quote of their group. The teacher collects the top quote from each group and the class votes on their favorite. Opportunities for target language input abound in the selection process.
