Judie Haynes writes, "Most educators of English learners (ELs) cringe at the thought of attending district-wide professional development (PD) programs. The content of many of these programs seems unrelated to the specialized needs of teachers of their students." Instead, Haynes writes, consider some other trends in professional development that many language teachers (not only English) are using: Professional Learning Networks (PLNs), Edcamps/unconferences, peer observations, pineapple charts observations, and book groups.
