How did August 24, AD 78 unfold in Pompeii? Watch this 9-minute animated video as the day progresses from some rumbling and smoke from the Vesuvius in the morning, to tremors and ash fallout in the mid-afternoon, to destruction in the evening, to a final catastrophic onslaught of debris on the morning of August 25. There are some sounds of babies crying and dogs howling in some of the early scenes, but otherwise the focus is on the physical destruction of the city.
