The 34th Annual Conference of the Southeastern Association of Teachers of Japanese (SEATJ) will be held at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

The theme of the conference is “Advocacy for Japanese Language Education in the 21st Century.” The conference aims to facilitate discussions that examine the significance of Japanese language education and explore ideas for innovative teaching and activities that help advocate for our profession. The organizers particularly encourage proposals addressing (1) the integration of 21st century skills and cultural competency in the curriculum that make the teaching and learning of Japanese language more relevant in today’s world, and (2) the importance of articulation and teacher collaboration to better advocate for learners.

In addition to session proposals that are related to the conference theme, the organizers welcome proposals on any topic related to Japanese language and teaching (pedagogy, classroom activities, assessment, instructional technology, second language acquisition, linguistics, literature and film, heritage language learners, K-12 issues in teaching Japanese, etc.).

Proposals are due by December 1, 2019
