The Kentucky Department of Education and the WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment) Consortium will host a webinar on the academic language of mathematics from 2 to 4 PM on September 13. The webinar is designed for English learners (EL) teachers, mathematics teachers and other staff members who work with ELs.

The webinar will focus on sociocultural factors that influence language use in math classrooms and types of supports and strategies to support ELs access to math content. It will be grounded in the disciplinary practices of the mathematics classroom and the communication needs to participate in these practices.

The webinar will be recorded and archived in the WIDA download library located in the WIDA Secure Portal. Access the portal and webinar requires a username and password, and only Kentucky teachers and administrators that give the ACCESS test to students have an account. Staff members such as EL coordinators or EL teachers may log in to the archived webinar, download materials and lead a professional learning community group in a school or districtwide.
