Title | New ACTFL Special Interest Group: Comprehension-based Communicative Language Teaching |
Body | The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages has a new Special Interest Group (SIG): Comprehension-based Communicative Language Teaching. The mission of the Comprehension-based Communicative Language Teaching (CCLT) SIG includes the following:
• To foster among members a better understanding of the role of input and comprehension in the development of language proficiency;
• To share curricular ideas regarding comprehension-based language teaching within the contemporary communicative and proficiency-oriented classroom;
• To explore appropriate assessments and outcome measurements for comprehension-based language teaching;
• To advocate for materials and resources that emphasize input and communication in the contemporary classroom;
• To connect with other SIGs (e.g., immersion, technology, language learning for children, LCTL, teacher education, critical and social justice) to explore common ground and promote collaboration.
