TitleIllinois State Board of Education Seeks Public Comment on Illinois Language Standards Change
Body

The Illinois State Board of Education is seeking public comment to replace Illinois Language Standards 28-29-30 with National Standards

Overview: The proposed rule change is posted for Public Comment until July 23. Scroll down to page 5, Section 1. Appendix D "World Languages" highlighted in RED. Please send an email with your comments to rules@isbe.net to let them know you support this 21st Century update for Illinois World Language educators.

This change aligns state standards with current best practices and focuses on the three Communicative Modes (Interpersonal, Interpretive, Presentational). These national standards were a collaborative effort of a joint task force including: AATA, AATF, AATG, AATI, AATJ, AATK, AATMG, AATSP, ACL, ACTFL, ACTR, ASLTA, CLASS, CLTA, MLA, NCOLCTL and National Standards Task Force for Hindi. JNCL-NCLIS supports the adoption of the National World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages as a replacement to the current and outdated Illinois Foreign Language Standards 28, 29 and 30.

Deadline: July 23, 2018

More information: View the proposed rule change on page 7 in red, at https://www.isbe.net/Documents/1_wf.pdf. Please send an email with your comments to rules@isbe.net.
