Title | Paideia Institute’s Iter Salemense |
Body | From http://www.paideiainstitute.org/iter_salemense High school students are invited to experience Latin as a living language while exploring the fascinating and spooky city of Salem, Massachusetts at the Paideia Institute’s Iter Salemense - just in time for Halloween! Students will experience the Latin hidden in Salem, including its famous graveyard, by participating in an ambulatio (Latin language walk), playing interactive Latin games, and through listening to ancient Roman ghost stories! Featured texts will include Pliny the Younger’s haunted house letter, the Malleus Maleficarum, a witch-hunting manual from 1486, and the Aberdeen Bestiary, a medieval description of fantastic beasts (and where to find them)! Instructors trained in active Latin will provide tours, lead games and more. Middle and high school students at all levels of Latin are welcome. Latin teachers are encouraged to attend with their students to participate and learn about active Latin and spoken language pedagogy. Following the conclusion of the Iter, participants are welcome to join the Paideia staff for lunch, Latin conversation and discussion of pedagogy. This event will take place on October 14, 2017, in Salem, Massachusetts. For full details go to http://www.paideiainstitute.org/iter_salemense |
