Body | Editor's note: Below is an abridged description of an activity recently posted on the FLTEACH listserv. It was intended for practicing the past tense but could be adapted for a number of structures or functions. ----- Make a transparency of the verbs you want students to use so they can see the words Wahrheit [truth] and Lüge [lie] and the specific information in parentheses after the verb. They are to write 2 true statements and 1 false one about something they did over the weekend or during the past week. For instance: Verbs: 1. I saw __. (a film) 2. I called __. 3. I put on __. (clothing item) (etc.) Student writes: a) I saw "Catch Me If You Can." b) I saw Gangs of New York. (this is a lie) c) I saw Seabiscuit. Then they get in groups of 3. Student A reads her 3 statements and Students B and C each have to guess which one is a lie, in the target language. At the end, each counts up which of the other two students got the most correct guesses. Haring, C. Teaching the Passe Compose. Foreign Language Teaching Forum listserv.
