Title | Call for Papers: Russia and the Pacific Northwest |
Body | From the SEELANGS listserv: Russia and the Pacific Northwest: Russians from Fort Ross to the Aleutian Islands Call for Papers: To mark its fiftieth anniversary, Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies at the University of Oregon will be holding an interdisciplinary conference on Russia and the Pacific Northwest on Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7, 2018. Presentations on all aspects of the topic, such as the history of Russian trade and colonization, Russian émigré literature of the area, environmental and immigrant history, as well as topics centered in such disciplines as linguistics, anthropology, religious studies and art, are solicited. The Pacific Northwest is understood as encompassing northern California, Oregon, Washington, Western coastal Canada, Alaska and Hawaii. The working language of the conference will be English. Conference organizers invite interested scholars to submit a 300-word abstract, along with a brief CV (1-3 pages) to the email addresses below. The conference will underwrite airfare, hotels and meals for participants. Deadline for receipt of paper proposals is 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Friday, September 1, 2017.
