And though they may not be related by blood, their love of the French language brings them together each Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the museum. Some who attend are French teachers from the area, some are visitors from Belgium, Canada or France, but many are south Lafourche and Terrebonne natives who were forced to stop speaking French as children. Golden Meadow native Camille France said he’s been coming to the weekly gathering for five years and learned the language from his grandmother who spoke only French. When he began school, however, the teachers actively tried to stamp the language out of him.
