| Title | Closing the Achievement Gap Conference 2005 |
| Body | April 29, 2005 - Smith Memorial Center, Portland State University The second-annual Closing The Achievement Gap conference is a broad professional training and public awareness event for educators, administrators, community leaders and parents, giving them opportunities to participate in a variety of workshops on strategies, techniques, and programs that Oregon schools are using to close the achievement gap in their communities. Participants will learn how to strengthen staff training and implement effective accountability models, community resources, and research-based classroom practices in their school improvement plans to increase achievement for all student populations. Workshops and speakers will cover topics involving a variety of student groups, including ethnic minorities, students living in poverty and homelessness, students with disabilities, foster children, English language learners, and more. The conference will also address program design, instructional strategies, literacy, No Child Left Behind, and other federal programs. Closing the Achievement Gap Banquet April 29, 2005 - Portland Ballroom, Oregon Convention Center The evening banquet will take information from the conference one step further by highlighting schools that are meeting the challenge of closing the achievement gap head-on. What have they done to become so successful? What day-to-day actions and activities have helped make their programs work? Take home advice from these leaders as they specifically illustrate how their programs bring about results. The banquet will draw educators, administrators, community and business leaders from all over Oregon. Superintendent of Public Schools Susan Castillo will host a formal sit-down dinner, multimedia presentations, and data-driven success stories from selected schools.
