Body

From http://linguistlist.org/issues/27/27-4849.html

The Department of and Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas at Austin are happy to announce the 7th Annual Jil Jadid “New Generation” Conference in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Turkish Languages and Literatures, a graduate student conference to be held at the University of Texas at Austin, February 24-25, 2017.

Jil Jadid aims to provide a forum for young scholars spread across a variety of disciplines to come together, share ideas and research, and discuss the future of their respective fields. This is especially critical as we move forward in our careers and come to represent the next generation of scholars engaging with the Middle East and its cultures. In addition to Arabic studies, we are pleased to welcome our colleagues in Hebrew, Persian, and Turkish in order to facilitate a valuable interdisciplinary exchange of new ideas.

This year, the conference will feature keynote speeches in linguistics by Dr. Alex Magidow (University of Rhode Island), and literature by Dr. Huda Fakhreddine (University of Pennsylvania). In addition to individual presentations, the conference will highlight explicit opportunities for participants to discuss their collective vision for the development of their fields.

Call Deadline: 13-Dec-2016
