The Joint National Committee for Languages and the National Council for Languages and International Studies (JNCL-NCLIS) will be hosting its annual Language Advocacy Day and Delegate Assembly on February 16-17, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill. Language advocates from all sectors of the language enterprise - education of the modern, classical, and less-commonly taught languages, English as a Second Language and bilingual education, linguistics, research, translation, interpreting - will gather in Washington, D.C. to make the case for increased promotion of and investment in world languages.

In addition to visiting the offices of their elected officials to advocate for world languages, attendees will:

•    Learn about the federal programs and policies that promote the study and use of world languages;
•    Learn the most pressing issues facing the language enterprise, and what is being done to address them;
•    Learn practices for federal and state level advocacy;
•    Network with fellow language advocates and professionals;
•    Work collaboratively to elevate the profile of the language enterprise at the national level.
