POSITION: ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
PROGRAM: FOREIGN AND SECOND LANGUAGE EDUCATION

QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in Foreign and Second Language
Education or the equivalent and three years successful foreign language
teaching in elementary or secondary schools or the equivalent are required.
Record of research and scholarship in second language education,
experience in teaching graduate students, experience in working in teacher
education programs emphasizing multidisciplinary approaches at
professional development sites are all preferred. Candidate must have 3
years K-12 experience in FL/Heritage Language/Bilingual/Bicultural
education.

Knowledge of languages spoken by key language minority groups (i.e.
Spanish, Somali, South East Asian languages) and experiences in other
cultures is valued. Research and scholarly focus in urban settings, and
infusing multi-racial, multi-cultural, and multilingual perspectives into teacher
education programs is also preferred.

DUTIES: Teach graduate courses and advise graduate students in MA,
PhD, TESOL endorsement, and post-degree MEd Programs in Foreign and
Second Language Education. Collaborate with schools in an integrated K-12
teacher licensure program at professional development sites. Solicit
extramural funding and participate in a substantial program of research and
scholarship. Contribute to scholarship and program development on meeting
the needs of a variety of students in diverse settings. Engage in service and
governance activities both within and outside the University.

DEADLINE: The committee will review applications beginning November
10, 2004 and continue until the position is filled. The position is available
for Autumn quarter, 2005.
