Body | The Department of Asian Languages and Literatures in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota is seeking applications for a teaching specialist or lecturer position to teach Vietnamese language courses. As a first step in initiating a Vietnamese language program, we are looking for a candidate who will teach a two-semester accelerated course for heritage speakers. If filled, this position would be 33% time from August 29, 2005 to May 28, 2006. The appointment is annually renewable depending upon departmental need, continued availability of funding, and satisfactory performance. Responsibilities of this position are to teach assigned language classes/ sections; keep office hours; prepare course materials; prepare and grade exams; and participate in program governance as appropriate. Required qualifications: B.A. degree, or foreign equivalent; native or near- native fluency in Vietnamese; strong English language communication skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications: M.A. or Ph.D., or foreign equivalent; some experience teaching Vietnamese language. Applicants holding the Ph.D. would be hired as Lecturer. Applicants with the B.A. or M.A. would be hired as Teaching Specialist.
