The 22nd Conference of the International Association for World Englishes will take place June 30-July 2, 2017, at Syracuse University in New York.

The conference will deal with the issues arising out of the global spread of English as an international and intranational lingua franca in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe. As we know, English plays a central and influential role in many important spheres of activities such as education, administration, law, media, literature, information technology, news, entertainment and social media, research in STEM and security studies, international relations among others. However, English is often used as a second or third language and interacts with many regional languages and cultures resulting in the development of many new varieties or “World Englishes.”

The conference will feature lectures and workshops on a broad array of topics. The following new as well as urgent sub-themes drawn from a variety of interdisciplinary fields ranging from Information Studies, Computer and Electrical Engineering, Linguistic and Cognitive Sciences to International Business, English, Media, Global Affairs and Policy Studies.

- World Englishes, Teaching and Education (including in STEM disciplines)
- Deep Learning, New Pedagogies & New Partnerships (business, Policies, Education, Corpus Linguistics and Machine Learning, Data Mining etc.)
- Social Media, Deception and Civility
- World Englishes (Global vs. local Paradox)
- Global Education, Partnerships and New Global Classroom
- Medicine and Literatures (including Trauma and Emotions)
- World Englishes and Language Acquisition
- World Englishes and Security Studies
- Cross-cultural communication and advertising

Abstract submission deadline for all types of presentations: December 31, 2016.
