The graduate students in East Asian Studies at the University of Toronto will
host their Fifth Annual Graduate Conference entitled "Movement: The Cultural
Dynamics of East Asia" on March 5, 2005. The conference will explore

commercial relations; displacement and migration; travel and tourism;
translation and textual transmission. We shall examine East Asian cultures in
flux, emerging, and under influence in all periods. All disciplines and
approaches are welcome.

The conference features Prof. Zhang Longxi from City University of Hong
Kong as a keynote speaker and other prominent scholars in their fields as
panel discussants.We would like to invite all those interested in presenting
papers to submit a one-page abstract and a brief CV by November 30, 2004.
The deadline for submitting completed papers is January 1, 2005. Presenters
will be given 15 minutes to present their work. As a guideline, papers may be
around 10 pages. Presentations of research in progress are welcome.
