IJET-16, the latest installment in the series of International Japanese/English
Translation conferences, will be held June 4-5, 2005 at the Westin Chicago
in Chicago, Illinois, USA. (For more information about the IJET conferences,
please see http://www.jat.org/ijet/. For information about the Westin Chicago,
please see http://www.westinchicago.com/.) The IJET-16 Organizing
Committee is now accepting proposals for individual (or joint) presentations
and panel discussions at IJET-16.

The following specific ideas are examples of topics that have been suggested
for IJET-16 sessions. If anyone is interested in making a presentation or
joining a panel on any of these topics, or if anyone has additional ideas to be
incorporated into the next Call for Proposals, please contact Jim Davis
(jdavis@engr.wisc.edu).

teaching Japanese-to-English translation
teaching English-to-Japanese translation
the role of translation in historical research
the role of the translator in legal discovery
litigation interpreting
translation in the pharmaceutical industry
the challenges of medical interpreting
the use of language to establish/reinforce gender-based roles in society
comparison between translating Japanese and translating Chinese
translating taste: translation in the food, fashion and fragrance industries
the role of translation in international finance
translation and the environment
translation and politics or the politics of translation

To submit a proposal for a presentation or a panel at IJET-16, please send the
following information to Jim Davis (jdavis@engr.wisc.edu) by November 1,
2004:

Title of presentation or panel
Abstract for presentation or panel (max. 150 words)
Length of presentation or panel (50 minutes or 80 minutes)
Name(s) of presenter(s) or panel members
Bio for each presenter or panel member (max. 100 words per person)
Email address for presenter or contact person

If you have an idea for a panel, but need help identifying other participants,
please contact Jim Davis. If you have any other questions about the program
at IJET-16, please don't hesitate to ask.
