Title | Boston Workshop: Japan: Teaching Peace, Connecting People |
Body |
Japan: Teaching Peace, Connecting People This workshop will explore ways Japan has contributed to world peace since the end of World War II and in particular how K-8 teachers can teach about Japan, peace building, and friendship. In the 70 years since the devastation of Hiroshima, artistic expressions such as origami cranes and children’s literature (including Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes) have raised the profile of peace education. We will look at how student-to-student projects develop friendships and expand worldviews. While this day will focus on Japan and peace education, many of the ideas can be used to explore other cultures and to build relationships with peoples worldwide.
