On September 25, President Obama announced a “One Million Strong” initiative, whose goal is to have one million people learning Chinese in the United States by 2020. This initiative expands on the “100,000 Strong” initiative, introduced in 2009, which met the goal of sending 100,000 American students to study in China by 2014.
