Join fellow language educators and thought leaders in an inaugural Twitter Chat moderated by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. This chat is being held during the Leadership Initiative for Language Learning Summer Institute — a collaboration of ten professional organizations for language educators.

WHEN: Tuesday, July 21, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. ET

TOPIC: Leading Transition Toward Core Practices

Overarching Essential Question: Change is good — you go first! How do language leaders facilitate transition around incorporating core practices?

Discussion Questions:

Q1: What core practices are language leaders supporting?
Q2: How does focusing on core practices lead to language proficiency?
Q3: What role do assessments play in incorporating core practices?
Q4: As language leaders how prepared are you to guide teachers/others to using core practices?

To participate: Use "A1" to answer the first question, "A2" to answer the second question, etc., and remember to include hashtags!

Carmen Scoggins teaches Spanish at Watauga High School in Boone, North Carolina where she is also an adjunct Spanish and Foreign Language Methodology instructor at Appalachian State University. Carmen is an active presenter at ACTFL, SCOLT, and FLANC and is a National Board Certified Teacher.

Dr. Lisa A. Harris is the Specialist for Foreign Languages and International Education at the Virginia Department of Education. Prior to this role, Dr. Harris served as a classroom teacher, middle school assistant principal, coordinator for foreign languages, director of curriculum and instruction, and project manager for school improvement.
