TitleSTARTALK/NHLRC Summer Workshop for Heritage Language Instructors
Body

Struggling to find suitable K-16 language materials for teaching heritage language (HL) learners? This year’s STARTALK/NHLRC Summer Workshop for Heritage Language Instructors will focus on developing instructional materials for HL learners. Workshop faculty are experts in both HL teaching and bridging the gap between theory and practice, making for a dynamic learning environment.

The workshop's objectives are for participants to:

•    Identify criteria and strategies for developing HL materials.
•    Design materials that build on HL students’ initial proficiencies and meet their affective needs.
•    Understand how to select and use authentic materials, and develop real-life activities to accompany them.
•    Become familiar with the principles of differentiated, macro, and project-based teaching.

Workshop date: Sunday, June 28th – Thursday, July 2nd (workshop will start at 9 am Sunday and end at approximately 2 pm on Thursday)

Space is limited to 2-3 participants per language.

There is no charge for the workshop. A limited number of stipends will be available to cover travel and accommodations for out-of-state participants.
