Women in China Today
Monday, May 11, 2015
Joyful Garden, Brighton, MA
6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

If you’re near Brighton, MA, this cultural presentation may be of interest to you or your Chinese students.

“Join us and other globally-minded guests for an authentic, family-style Chinese meal followed by a conversation on the changing roles of women in China.

“How have China's rapid development and societal transformation affected the lives and status of women today? Recent reports in the U.S. press on the situation of women in China have spotlighted gender imbalance, employment discrimination, and violence against women. What are the realities and trends, particularly in light of this year's 20th anniversary of the U.N. Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995?

“Scholars Weili Ye, University of Massachusetts Boston and Cathy Yeh, Boston University will reflect on the gains, the losses, and the question marks. Conversation will be moderated by Melissa Ludtke, Author and Producer of Touching Home in China: In Search of Missing Girlhoods.”
