Spring Conference at Willamette University

Thanks to all of you who attended the Spring Conference at Willamette University hosted in collaboration with Language in Motion Northwest.  Our thanks to Nomi Pearce, Willamette LiM coordinator, for her leadership and hospitality.  We were pleased that many students and foreign language teaching assistants from LiM NW schools participated in the spring conference.  They brought a fresh perspective to our teaching community. 
COFLT strives for our conferences to provide you useful and lively networking and professional development opportunities.  To share comments, criticism or compliments please fill out the conference evaluation form.
 
Save the Date:  The 2015 Fall Conference will be held October 9-10 at PCC Sylvania.

Board Elections:
Elections to the COFLT Board will be held starting May 1, 2015.  We are accepting nominations through April 24, 2015.  To nominate yourself, please visit the COFLT website.
The COFLT Board is comprised of 5 elected and 1 appointed officer, 8 elected at-large members (representing K-16), as well as representatives from our affiliate language organizations such as the ATJO, PNCFL, OATG, ODE, etc. We also have representatives from the retired language teacher community. Our board represents all major languages taught in Oregon including Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and Japanese.
COFLT depends on volunteers to make professional development opportunities available in Oregon.  Please consider serving on the COFLT board for a two year term.  The Board meets about 5 times a year (often virtually) and organizes 2 conferences.  

We are seeking nominations for the following positions on the Board:   
Treasurer (1 position)
Nominees: Sandra Garcia, Pacific University
K-8 Representatives (2 positions) 
Nominees: Tina Hargaden, Middle School, Gresham
9-12 Representatives (3 positions)
Nominees: Scott Goodman, Valley Catholic High School
Immersion Representative (1 position)

Honors and Awards
Several members were concerned about meeting the April 1 deadline for Honor Roll and Certificates of Achievement.  We have extended the deadline for these services to April 24, 2015.
Ten scholarship application have been received by the COFLT Honors & Awards Committee.  Scholarship nominations are now closed.  Awards will be made and notifications will be sent in May.  
The COFLT Honors & Awards Committee will evaluate teacher mini-grant applications and send notifications in May.  The next deadline for mini-grants is November 1.  Past award winners, Laura Mulas and Andy Scott are scheduled to present their projects at the 2015 Fall Conference.
