Body | From http://risingvoicesfilm.com/ Florentine Films/Hott Productions, Inc. in association with The Language Conservancy, have announced that the film Rising Voices/Hótȟaŋiŋpi will be released soon. “This is a one-hour documentary film about the imminent peril to the Lakota (Native American) language, the culture shaped by that language, and the history that created that peril. The film braids together several strands of the story: the struggles of Lakota to learn their tribal language today, the historical attempt by the United States to annihilate the language, the rise of immersion language schools and the participation of outsiders in the rescue of the Lakota language. History is interwoven with present-day scenes and with short films about the culture, created by Lakota filmmakers and artists especially for Rising Voices/Hótȟaŋiŋpi.” The film will be broadcast on public television in November 2015, but in the meantime, check out the website for the project at www.risingvoicesfilm.com where you can watch a four-minute trailer for the film and check to see when and where the film premiere and screenings will be held. |
