It is also available online at http://www.iastate.edu/~apling/conf/tsll/2004/homepage.html - 2nd CALL FOR PAPERS - Technology for Second Language Learning 2nd annual conference Interpreting Data in CALL Research Saturday, October 2, 2004 Memorial Union, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa Keynote speaker Paul Gruba Senior Lecturer, Horwood Language Centre, The University of Melbourne Research investigating the use of technology for language learning relies on multiple forms of data collection to address theoretical and practical issues, but methods for analysis pose challenges for researchers. What methods of data collection, analysis and interpretation can help to address the specific needs of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) developers and users? Papers presented at this conference will seek to address this question by exploring approaches to research on CALL. Researchers in CALL and CALL-related disciplines are invited to submit abstracts for papers on approaches to data interpretation in CALL research. Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to the following: * Description of human-computer interaction through interpretation of video, concurrent and retrospective verbal protocols, screen-capture data, and tracking * Approaches for operational assessment of individual differences relevant to the use of CALL * Frameworks for integrating multiple sources of data concerning the value of CALL for L2 learning * Measurement issues pertaining to assessment of language and other relevant constructs in CALL research Abstracts (200 - 400 words) must be submitted electronically by September 8, 2004 to Volker Hegelheimer (volkerh@iastate.edu) Hosted by the Program in Teaching English as a Second Language/Applied Linguistics, Department of English, and the CALL Club, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa.
