¿Sabes lo que es un centón? Es una pieza literaria, en prosa o verso, compuesta con fragmentos de otras obras. Lourdes Domenech shares this teaching unit with the final project of getting students to create their own “centones”. This sequence may be especially useful and appropriate for heritage learners or higher-level students. First of all, the teacher will need to select an anthology of poems in Spanish to use in class. The idea is to get students familiar with the reading and interpretation of poems before moving on to the creation stage, which involves critical thinking skills: What poems are appropriate for the topic chosen? How do you make a coherent centón with clear ideas? How do verb tenses and different grammatical structures affect the cohesion of the centón?
