Here are two professional development opportunities from the Japan Foundation, Los Angeles:

TRAINING PROGRAMS for JAPANESE-LANGUAGE TEACHERS

Application Deadline: December 1st, 2014

 Long-term Training Program (6 months): This program is for non-native speakers of Japanese who are under the age of 36, and have more than 6 months and less than 5 years of experience in teaching the Japanese language (private lessons not included) as of December 1, 2014. This course assists the participants to improve their Japanese-language skills and teaching methodology and deepen their knowledge of Japan.

 Short-term Training Program (2 months): This program is for non-native speakers of Japanese who are under the age of 56, and have at least 2 years of experience in teaching the Japanese language (private lessons not included) as of December 1, 2014. This course assists the participants to improve their Japanese-language skills and teaching methodology and deepen their knowledge of Japan.

 Advanced Training Program (2 months): This program is designed for individuals or teams of up to three people who require more advanced expertise and skills as teachers of Japanese, and have specific challenges they wish to address, or have issues they want to resolve in the teaching of the Japanese language.

 Graduate Program (Master's Degree Course) (1 year): This program is designed to provide teachers of the Japanese language abroad with an opportunity to obtain a Master's degree in Japanese-language education.

JAPANESE LANGUAGE PROGRAM for SPECIALISTS (in Cultural and Academic Field)

Application Deadline: December 1st, 2014

This program provides specialists (Researchers, Postgraduate Students, Librarians, Museum Curators, etc.) who need a good command of Japanese language for conducting their field-related work and research with course of Japanese-Language specifically designed for their needs. The program is held at the Japan Foundation - Japanese Language Institute, Kansai in Japan.

There are 2-month and 6-month courses, and both courses are primarily "language training" courses for participants requiring Japanese language proficiency for specialized work and research activities. Professional education in their specific area of expertise is NOT included in the curriculum.
