TESOL Drama Workshop Descriptions:
Level 1: The primary focus of our workshop is to improve communication through the practice of drama, which is useful for English, language, TESOL, and theatre teachers as well as performing artists. Our facilitator identifies the goals and needs of each of the participants, then leads them through dramatic activities, games, and improvisational exercises that create a forum for reflection, catharsis, and discussion which address the identified questions regarding their practice. Participants are then guided through collaborative group activities where they create scenes, monologues, short plays, and lesson plans using the tools they have been given. Skills taken from this workshop include: the practice and teaching of vocal work, learning to create and think on your feet, teaching and engaging in creative group collaboration, practicing cultural sensitivity, and using drama to better communicate ideas. Career options and practical applications of this work will also be explored and discussed.

Level 2: This will be a multimedia workshop focussing on drama and other art forms as a means of communication for the teaching and learning of other languages. There will be advanced activities in acting and playwrighting while also incorporating creative activities in music and visual arts. The collaborative learning approach will be explored within performance and curriculum contexts. Cultural and place-based education methods will also be explored (using the arts, culture, and your immediate environment in curriculum). There will also be a discussion on career options and implementation.
