Penn Language Center at the University of Pennsylvania seeks a full-time
Coordinator for our rapidly growing American Sign Language program.
Under the supervision of the PLC Director, the ASL Language Coordinator
will work with ASL faculty and students, and with other Penn language faculty.
This a non-tenure track, 9-month Lecturer A position, annually renewable, to
begin in September 2004.

Qualifications: Native or near-native proficiency in ASL. Ph.D. or MA in Deaf
studies, (applied) linguistics, foreign language education, or equivalent field
of study. A minimum of three years' ASL teaching experience, program
coordination preferred. Must have American Sign Language Teachers'
Association certification or be prepared to obtain certification during first year
of appointment. Must have excellent supervisory and administrative skills.
Familiarity with instructional technology or web site development highly
recommended.

Duties will include:
- Coordinating and managing the ASL program;
- Recruiting, training, and supervising ASL faculty;
- Working with PLC Director on curriculum development and course design;
- Teaching five courses in the program;
- Serving as adviser to ASL students, guiding them in the competency
requirement process;
- Assisting the director and other program staff with other projects and tasks
relating to the program mission and goals.
