Spring appears to have sprung – finally! That means the deadline for our summer professional development workshops is drawing near. The early application deadline (application fee waived) is May 16 and the regular deadline is June 1.

The Center for Language Education and Research will be offering four workshops this summer:

The Basics of Creating Assessments: From Principles to Practice
July 14-16, 2014

Rich Internet Applications for Language Learning: Introductory Techniques
July 17-19, 2014

Speaking Activities for Oral Proficiency Development
July 21-23, 2014

Using Authentic Materials in all Levels of Foreign Language Classes
July 24-26, 2014

The early application deadline (application fee waived) is May 16 and the regular deadline is June 1.

CLEAR is also very pleased to announce a limited number of stipends, which will be made available to foreign language teachers who wish to attend these workshops. Stipends will be awarded on a sliding scale to language educators who otherwise might not be able to take advantage of our professional development workshops. The number and amount of stipends awarded is dependent on the number of applications received.

Stipends will include a tuition waiver for workshop fees as well as funding that can be used toward travel and accommodations. In accordance with CLEAR's grant mandate, preference will be given to teachers of less commonly taught languages (LCTL). Paired applications from LCTL teachers wishing to attend the workshop on using authentic materials in the classroom (i.e., two teachers of the same language wishing to attend the workshop together) will also be given special consideration.
