CASLS Online Learning Specialist Krystal Sundstrom began working for CASLS in 2007, writing items for many of CASLS' assessments. Since then, Krystal has become the primary expert on LinguaFolio Online. She has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving language education. In that capacity, Krystal has conducted numerous conference presentations and webinars to help educators reap the benefits of formative assessment. After seven years, CASLS staff wish her a reluctant farewell.

"I will miss the people," Krystal says of her departure. "CASLS has such a wonderful crew of interesting, intelligent people with a wide range of interests. I've enjoyed getting to know everyone, and we have a great team doing great work!"

As a result of continued cuts to federal and state funding for foreign languages and timing of grants, CASLS has been unable to renew some staff contracts, including Krystal's. The unreliable nature of public funding is one of the things Krystal will miss the least about CASLS – along with the standard office fluorescent lighting.

Even without her physical presence, Krystal's legacy will live on at CASLS for many years to come. "I have often been impressed with her easygoing demeanor, no matter what the situation," remarks CASLS Instructional Designer Deborah Cooke. "Her ability to network and make connections and alliances is truly amazing!"

Krystal plans to enjoy time with her two children and growing a garden this summer before diving into her doctoral degree. "I'm a teacher at heart. My specific roles may vary, but I always envision myself teaching others."

We have all certainly learned a lot from Krystal these past years, and we wish her the best of luck completing her doctoral degree and finding her dream position that will allow her to continue her role helping others learn.
