Created in 1983 on the initiative of US President Ronald Reagan and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl to mark the tricentennial of the first German immigration to the American colonies, the Friendship Garden has now been refurbished thanks to a partnership between the German Embassy Washington, the National Park Service, and German-American associations, which together will organize the festivities.
