TitleNew Chinese Language Teacher Certification and Master’s Degree at Portland State University
Body

From http://www.pdx.edu/ci/GTEP-Chinese

Chinese language teacher certification is an important focus within the Graduate Teacher Education Program (GTEP) at Portland State University. GTEP offers two Chinese language teacher certification options, one for teaching Chinese in public middle schools and high schools, and another for teaching in public elementary schools, particularly in dual-language (Mandarin and English) classrooms.

The GTEP program consists of 66 credits and results in an Oregon initial teaching license and a Master’s degree in education. Students may choose from the format options below:

One-year program
The one-year program begins and ends in mid-June. Courses are held in the day and late afternoons. Field experiences in the schools typically coincide with the public school calendar year. Responsibilities in the school setting increase and coursework decreases as you continue in the program.

Two-year program
The two-year program begins and ends in mid-June. Field experiences in the schools typically coincide with the public school calendar year. The two-year option may allow candidates to take additional requisite preparation classes while in the first year of the program.

Applications for the 2014-2015 academic year will be accepted until May 1st.
