The number of Spanish-speaking Dual Language Learners (DLLs) entering preschool programs in the U.S. is growing at an increasing rate. To understand DLLs' early development and design interventions to improve children's outcomes, researchers need high quality instruments to document the characteristics of DLLs, their families, and their classrooms as well as DLLs' experiences with their two languages. The Center for Early Care and Education Research-Dual Language Learners (CECER-DLL) has developed parent and teacher questionnaires to meet this need.

Featuring presenters Carol Scheffner Hammer, Shelley E. Scarpino, and Lauren M. Cycyk from Temple University, and hosted by Child Care and Early Education Research Connections, this webinar will present: (a) the content of questionnaires, (b) the iterative, multi-step process used to develop the questionnaires, including cognitive interviews with parents and teachers, (c) preliminary findings from a validation study, and (d) the next steps in the development process. Ultimately, the questionnaires will be made available to researchers. The goal is to provide the field with high quality questionnaires that can be used to characterize preschool DLLs' experiences.
