On December 13, 2013, ACTFL’s revised ACTFL/CAEP Program Standards for the Preparation of Foreign Language Teachers were approved by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) State Partnerships and Content Areas Committee. These standards are a revision of the formerly approved 2002 standards, and have been developed by a grass-roots effort over the last two years.

Programs seeking national recognition through ACTFL/CAEP may use either the 2002 or the 2013 standards. In spring 2016 programs must use the 2013 standards. Programs that are submitting Revised Reports or Response to Conditions Reports should continue to use the same set of standards they addressed in their original report.

Additional documents to assist programs in preparing the ACTFL/CAEP program report will be available by late spring of 2014. These documents will offer step-by-step suggestions for how to write the report and present examples of the required key assessments. Guidelines and webinars to refresh reviewers will be announced for the spring 2014 as well.
