Foreign language students utilize this mode of communication when they “present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics.” In the target language, however, the focus of instruction at the elementary and intermediate levels of foreign language study is typically Listening and Speaking not Reading and Writing. Do you use a specific teaching approach to teach writing in Japanese? Have you ever wondered if your students are gaining Japanese writing skills as they progress in their learning? To guide our discussion of how to teach writing and to lead us in hands-on session, Indiana University and the Association of Indiana Teachers of Japanese are pleased to welcome Dr. Kazumi Matsumoto of the Modern languages and Classics Department at Ball State University.
