BodyFrom http://www.goethe.de/ins/us/was/ver/en9908549v.htm

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches communication and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. A typical Toastmasters club consists of a small group of people who meet once a week for about an hour. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice:

Impromptu speeches: Members have the opportunity to give one- to two-minute impromptu speeches about announced topics.
Prepared speeches: Three or more members give speeches based on projects from Toastmasters manuals. Speeches cover topics such as speech organization, humor, voice, language, gestures and persuasion.
Constructive evaluations: Every speaker is assigned an evaluator who points out speech strengths and suggestions for improvement.

Residents of the Washington, DC, area are invited to join this speaking club:
Every first and third Thursday 5-6pm (in English)
Every second and fourth Thursday 5-6pm (in German)
