This Seminar is especially designed to assist language educators to meet
NCLB requirements of California HOUSSE Part 1 & 2 for "Highly Qualfied
Teachers."
HOUSSE 1 -- This standards/framework-aligned professional development
program will provide participants with 40 hours (10 points) of subject matter
competence in the area of foreign language education.

HOUSSE 2 -- This Seminar will prepare participants to meet Standards 3
(Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning) and 5
(Assessing Student Learning) of the California Standards for the Teaching
Profession (CSTP)

Content-Specific Strands:
* Early Language Education: Program Models and Best Practices for
Immersion, Dual Immersion and FLES Programs
* Literacy Development in the Foreign/Heritage Language Classroom
* Making Communication Come Alive in Your Language Classroom
* Framework/Standards-Based Japanese Language Instruction
* Pursuing Accomplished Teaching: Preparing for National Board Certfication

Language-Specific Strands:
(These strands will be conducted in the target language.)
* Advanced Placement in Spanish Literature
* Enhancing Korean Language Instruction
* Maximizing Student Performance in the Japanese Language Classroom
* The Motivational Classroom: Learning German Language and Culture
Through Authentic Literary/Cultural Texts and Musical Selections
* Spanish for Spanish Speakers: Effective Strategies for Teaching Native and
Heritage Speakers of Spanish
* TV5 and Music: Tapping the Power of French Media to Motivate Your
Students
